1st National Book Review Competition

Kathmandu School of Law since its inception has been organizing various Academic Programs such as; International and National Seminars, Winter and Summer Residential School, Faculty and Student Exchange Programs and many more focusing on academic and overall development of students. For the first time KSL on 24/04/2075 organized a National Book Review Competition directed at young readers and writers with a motive to provide them an opportunity to interact with each other and with contemporary Nepali writers about literature. The program was presided by President of KSL, Prof. Madhav Prasad Acharya, and Senior Litterateur and a Cultural Anthropologist Tejeshwor Babu Gwong was present as a Chief Guest while the member Secretary of Nepal Pragya Prathisthan, Prof. Dr. Jeevandra Giri, was present as the special guest which made the program more delightful.
Distinguished guests and the students from different colleges attended the program. The day long program included extempore presentation of review by the top 13 book reviews selected for the final competition.

The literary books provided for the review by the organizers were-

i. ‘Sishir Ma Phuleko Guras’ by Yubaraj Sangroula;
ii. ‘Seto Dharti’ by Amar Neupane;
iii. ‘Khalanga Ma Hamala’ by Radha Poudyal;
iv. ‘Aina’ by Ram Lal Joshi;
v. ‘Toda’ by Uma Subedi;
vi. ‘Kathaputla’ by Archana Thapa;
vii. ‘Damini Bhir’ by Rajan Mukarung;
viii. ‘Kaili’ by Jamuna Neupane;
ix. ‘Dhritarastra’ by Ghana Shyam Kadel
The participants were awarded with certificates and cash prizes by the Chief Guest and Special Guest. The participants who were awarded with First, Second and Third position (Shared by two participants) were Mr. Pratap Adhikari, he reviewed ‘Aina’ written by Ram Lal Joshi, Ms. Rakshya Khanal she reviewed ‘Khalanga Ma Hamala’ written by Radha Poudel and Ms. Jenisha Budhathoki reviewed ‘Damini Bhir’ written by Rajan Mukarung and Ms. Sudikshya Sharma reviewed ‘Aina’ written by Ram Lal Joshi respectively. The top four winners were honored with cash prize Nrs, 10,000, Nrs, 7,500 and Nrs. 5,000 each. All the winners were also gifted with a book ‘Nisankoch Abhibyakti’ authored by Prof. (Dr.) Yubaraj Sangroula. The book is a reflection of society and societal structures requiring lots of positive changes with feeling of patriotism towards nation.
Beside the recitation of reviews by the participants, the major highlight of the program was review of the listed books by Prof. Geeta Pathak, Mr. Chhaya Dutta Neupane “Bagar”, Prof. Dr. Jeevendra Dev Giri, Assoc. Prof. Dilli Ram Gautam, and Mr. Jeevan Nath Adhikari from different perspectives. The chief guest in his speech thanked KSL for taking initiative for this kind of program and also gave more importance to the need for arranging such program to bring together writers, readers and publishers of Nepalese literature.  He encouraged the students for their laudable performances and appreciated their love for literature.
Bishnu Karki and Bibek Thakur of B.A. LL.B 5th Year conducted the program in a very efficient manner. The event was coordinated by Asst. Prof. Laxmi Sapkota.
