Biography

Mr. Achyut Acharya is Associate Professor at Kathmandu School of Law. He is a dynamic professional who holds Master’s Degree in three disciplines namely International HRs Laws, Human Rights and Gender Justice and International Humanitarian Law from domestic and foreign Universities. He has considerably acquired advanced theoretical and practical knowledge on international human rights and humanitarian laws as well as domestic laws and legal system. He has teaching experience in couple of universities and colleges on the subject of international HRs and humanitarian laws, media and press freedom and HRs Impact Assessment. He has been involved in paper presentations on various contemporary topics and thematic area of human rights and fundamental freedoms both in Nepal and aboard. He also served as a senior staff of National Human Rights Commission of Nepal and Human Rights Officer in United Nations in South Sudan where he has gained a sound knowledge on human rights and humanitarian law; transitional justice; UN system on HRs; role and function of NHRIs as well as protection of civilians; network building and coordination of stakeholders including Government and security forces; State reporting system on HRs etc. He has successfully participated in various trainings in and out of country on monitoring, investigation, documentation and reporting on HRs; thematic area of gender, women, marginalized ethnic communities; democracy and good governance; domestic and international enforcement system on HRs; protection of civilian in armed conflict;  transitional justice system and mechanism; Project Management; International Standards for the Protection of Individuals and Groups; Core Commitments for Children; Advocacy and protection of Child; Coaching and Mentoring; Negotiation and Mediation; Legal Aid for Refugees and so on.

Mr Acharya has also worked as lead researcher and consultant on different themes and organizations:

  1. As a consultant on ‘Review Provincial Laws (Bagmati Province) from Human Rights Perspective’ for National Human Rights Commission’s Strategic Plan Support Project (SPSP-Supported by UNDP) on April -May 2020. (on going)
  2. As researcher on ‘Assessment of Civil Society Perspective on the Law-Making Process and Status of Freedom of Opinion, Expression and Assembly in the Provincial laws (Province 1, Bagmati and Gandaki Province)’ for Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC), Nepal. (on going) March-April 2020.
