This year, we reign victorious at Jessup Nepal!

A reason for celebration amidst the exam season -we've won the Nepal qualifying rounds of the 2024 Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition! KSL is also set to represent Nepal at the International Rounds at Washington DC, commencing on 30 March 2024. 

Our mooting team, formed following a fiercely competitive selection round, it and of itself a moot court competition, comprises of BA LLB students in their fourth or fifth year at KSL -Ashlesha Joshi, Riti Prasai, Yaman Bhandari, Pravesh Shiwakoti anda Biplav Dhakal. It would be remiss of us to not acknowledge the sheer tenacity of our mooting team in putting up an exceptional performance at the national stage during the annual board examination. 

Yugichha Sangroula (KSL faculty; Jessup alum) and Prajwol Bikram Rana (KSL alum; Jessup alum) rallied the team as legal advisors and managers, assisted by Aashish Poudyal (BA LLB fourth year; Jessup alum) and Saugat Pokhrel (BA LLB fourth year; Jessup alum). The team competed at four matches at the preliminaries, twice each as the Applicant (Antrano) and the Respondent (Remisia), and won all four rounds. Our memorials were adjudged as the third best, and Yaman Bhandari as the third best orator.

The competition this year featured the areas of statelessness, freed om of expression, citizenship and the authority of the UN Security Council. It saw participation from 11 institutions of higher legal education around the Nepal, made possible by the support of the US Embassy, Nepal, the Jessup National Administrator Ojaswee Bhattarai (NLC alum; Jessup alum), and the Organizing Committee that also included Pranjali Kanel (KSL alum; Jessup alum). Apurba Khatiwada (KSL alumn; Jessup alum) was a legal advisor to the NLC team which was also a semifinalist team, Kundan Raj Sharma (KSL alum; Henry alum) was a legal advisor to the NaLC team that won the award for the best memorials. Anuj Chand (KSL alum; Jessup alum) was a legal advisor to the team from Gandaki University that made a commendable debut at Jessup. 

The KSL Jessup team deeply appreciates the constant presence and advices of Prof. Geeta Pathak, and the unwavering commitment of Prof. (Dr.) Yubaraj Sangroula towards clinical legal education at KSL. The team is extremely grateful for the guidance of Dr. Amritha V. Shenoy (KSL faculty), Swechhya Sangroula (KSL faculty; Jessup alum), Sharad Sharma (KSL alum; Jessup alum), Anjana Dhital (KSL alum; Jessup alum), Aarzoo Karki (KSL alum; Stetson alum), Saramsha Aryal (fifth year; Jessup alum), Pratistha Pokharel (fifth year; Jessup alum), Manasa Pradhan (fifth year; Stetson alum), and Aakriti Khatri (fourth year; Stetson alum). 

The KSL Moot Court Committee appreciates the managerial support of its members, Prabhakar Chalise and Pariskrit Rai Dahal, and the promptness, creativity and professional aptitude of the KSL volunteers at Jessup - Abin Amatya, Deep Subedi, Shubhashree Pandey and Samprekshya Bidari.
