Eighth Annual International Youth Champions Anti- Trafficking in Persons Conclave at Kolkata, India
March 13th – 16th, 2019
With the joint partnership of U.S Consulate General, Kolkata, Shakti Vahini organized Eighth Annual International Youth Champions Anti-Trafficking in Persons Conclave with the motto of 'Working Together to Combat Human Trafficking' from March 13th – 16th, 2019 at American Center, Kolkata. There were 72 participants from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and U.S.A.
The Conclave aimed to build an allegiance between the students and empower student’s activist to combat Human Trafficking by enabling their skills through sharing knowledge of Human Trafficking. It highlighted the importance of students and young activist in combating Human Trafficking.
From Nepal, there were seven participants led by Jaya Ram Nepali, Political Assistant in Embassy of the United States, Nepal. From KSL Swostika Danuwar (1st year), Bishnu Karki (5th year), and Ojaswi K.C (Research Assistant) participated respectively.
In the Conclave, Swostika Danuwar (1st Year in KSL) was chosen by Nepali participants to be made as the focal person to represent Nepal. Her role is to provide six months working updates of Nepali team to combat Human Trafficking to U.S Consulate General, Kolkata, and Shakti Vahini. Swostika Danuwar and Bishnu Karki presented on campus and community activities to combat Human Trafficking in Nepal representing team Nepal.
The four-day conclave vision was to empower youth and student’s activists to combat Human Trafficking. The Conclave sessions were led by Dr. Vanessa Bouche, Associate Professor of Political Science of Texas Christian University along with Dr. Bouche, other dignitaries and experts of Nepal and India who have been working to combat Human Trafficking were also invited to facilitate in the conclave. The Conclave provided participants knowledge to use their individual role in their community to combat Human Trafficking.
